Oatmeal is actually pretty awesome

I hated oatmeal for a long long long time. I thought it was sad food and there was no good reason to eat it. But I needed to fill up in the morning and I needed a punch of protein to start my day.

I gave it a try one day. I loaded it with sugar and topped it with fruit. I didn’t hate it, and the sugar was my gateway into a new favorite breakfast. Now I skip the sugar and load the bowl with seeds and nuts. I’m hooked on almond butter and I’ve recently discovered coconut flakes and raw cocoa nibs.

A big bowl of loaded oatmeal is under 400 calories and it’s enough to keep me full until lunch. No snacking needed anymore to get my through the day.

If you’re looking to be more heathy try starting your day with oatmeal. But, if you need to begin the journey with sugar, by all means, try it.

  1. Congrats on your success! I love oatmeal! In one other section you listed 1/2 c oatmeal and this one has a cup. But what is the protein count? The other listed cottage cheese also. Any help appreciated!

    1. A standard serving of cooked oatmeal is 150 calories and one cup cooked. In one other post it’s the same calorie amount but I chose the uncooked label vs cooked, hence the difference between 1/2-1 cup. Oatmeal doesn’t really have much protein. That’s why I add nuts and seeds. On days I feel like I need an extra protein I’ll add cottage cheese as a side. CC has a huge amount of protein!
